History

Launched in early 2015 as GAC's first self-developed compact SUV on the GA3-derived platform, the GS4 became a phenomenon in the Chinese market almost immediately. Monthly sales consistently exceeded 20,000 units between 2015 and 2018, and cumulative sales surpassed 1.45 million units by March 2024 — making it one of the best-selling Chinese-brand SUVs of its era. The 2015 first-generation model offered a 1.3-liter turbocharged engine producing 137 hp and 202 Nm of torque, with a 2,640 mm wheelbase and 190 mm ground clearance.

A second generation arrived in November 2019, offering the GS4 in both a standard SUV and a fastback "GS4 Coupe" body style, powered by a 1.5-liter turbo producing 169 hp. Plug-in hybrid and battery-electric variants have been available at various points in the model's life. A comprehensive third-generation update followed in 2024 as the GS4 Max, ensuring the nameplate remains Trumpchi's volume anchor into the mid-2020s.
