History
The original Tata Safari was presented in 1998 as India's first ladder-frame SUV aimed at the premium end of the market, with exports to the UK beginning 1999. Over more than two decades it became synonymous with rugged Indian motoring, receiving a significant update as the Safari Storme (2012) with a more powerful engine and revised styling.
After the first generation ended in 2019, Tata relaunched the Safari name in January 2021 with a radical change of character: the new Safari is a front-wheel-drive, monocoque crossover SUV sharing its underpinnings with the Harrier and offering three-row, seven-seat packaging — a deliberate pivot toward modern family buyers. A facelift followed in October 2023.
