History
In 1899 brothers Emil and Bernhard Stoewer founded Gebrüder Stoewer, Fabrik für Motorfahrzeugen and immediately presented their first car: the Großer Stoewer Motorwagen. It was a four-seat open tourer powered by a rear-mounted 2.1-litre two-cylinder engine producing 6.5 PS (4.8 kW), with chain drive and a top speed of just 17 km/h (11 mph).
The car placed Stoewer among the genuine pioneers of German motoring. A surviving example is preserved in the Polytechnic Museum in Moscow.
