History

The Kodiaq arrived in October 2016 as Škoda's first large SUV, offering optional seven-seat three-row configuration on the MQB A2 platform shared with the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace and SEAT Tarraco. Its name references the Kodiak bear of Alaska; for its launch, Volkswagen Group marketing briefly had the US city of Kodiak rename itself 'Kodiaq'.

The second generation, unveiled in October 2023 and built on MQB Evo, earned a five-star Euro NCAP rating in 2024 testing — matching the first generation's 2017 result — and expanded electrified powertrain options.
