History
The original Rambler Rebel debuted for 1957 as a high-performance, limited-edition V8 sedan; with a 327-cubic-inch V8 in a relatively light body, the 1957 Rebel was among the fastest American production sedans of the year, trailing only the fuel-injected Corvette in some acceleration tests.
The Rebel name carried the V8 Rambler line through 1960, after which it was folded into the new Classic for 1961. AMC later revived 'Rebel' as a Rambler model again for 1966–1967 before it became the AMC Rebel in 1968 — so the Rambler-branded Rebel appeared in two stints (1957–1960 and 1966–1967).
