Otosan Anadol A2 History

Introduced in 1970, the Anadol A2 was the first four-door model in the Anadol range and is credited as the world's first mass-produced fiberglass-bodied four-door sedan — an engineering distinction that attracted attention from the international motoring press. The body retained the Ford Kent running gear of the A1 and received a front-end facelift in 1972.

The A2 found its largest audience as a family car and taxi in Istanbul and other Turkish cities. Its light fiberglass construction made it relatively economical to repair and easy on fuel — important virtues in a country subject to periodic oil-price shocks. With 35,668 units built it remains the highest-production Anadol of any model.

Production continued alongside later models until 1981, by which point the Otosan nameplate had already been absorbed into Ford Otosan (1977). The A2's taxi career extended its effective road life well into the 1980s in Istanbul.
