Moon Eight History

Moon introduced its first eight-cylinder cars around 1928 — the '8' series, including the 8-75 and 8-80 'Aerotype' models — adopting the smooth straight-eight that was becoming the fashionable engine of the late-1920s American market. The styling of these later cars is associated with designer Howard 'Dutch' Darrin, who would go on to coachbuild for Packard and others.

The eights arrived as the company was already in trouble. Within months Moon rebranded its production as the Windsor (from April 1929) and committed itself to the front-drive Ruxton venture, so the Moon-badged straight-eight had only a brief run before the marque's name disappeared entirely.
