Mercury Mountaineer History

The Mountaineer arrived for 1997 as Mercury's version of the body-on-frame Ford Explorer, distinguished by a monochrome grille and more upscale trim, and was among the few late-era Mercurys with real showroom appeal during the SUV boom.

It tracked the Explorer's redesigns through three generations and remained in the lineup until 2010, when it was discontinued as Ford announced the end of the Mercury brand.
