Mercury Comet History
History
The Comet arrived for 1960 as a compact derived from the Ford Falcon, initially sold without explicit Mercury branding. It grew into an intermediate for 1966–1967 on the Ford Fairlane platform, where its high-performance Cyclone variant became a genuine muscle car.
After the muscle era the Cyclone name split off, and the Comet returned for 1971–1977 as a compact twinned with the Ford Maverick, ending the nameplate's run in 1977.
