Mercury Marauder History

The Marauder name first appeared in 1963 on full-size Mercurys with a sloping fastback 'Breezeway'-rivaling roofline aimed in part at stock-car racing, offered through 1965. It returned for 1969–1970 as a distinct full-size personal-luxury two-door.

The 1969–1970 Marauder X-100 carried a 429-cubic-inch V8 making 360 hp, with a sporty fastback roof and a unique rear-deck treatment, but sales were modest — around 9,000 for 1969 and far fewer for 1970 — and the nameplate was retired after 1970.
