Mercury Marauder (2003–2004) History
History
Mercury revived the Marauder name for 2003 after a 33-year absence — a monochrome, blacked-out performance version of the rear-drive Panther-platform Grand Marquis aimed at the muscle-sedan niche.
It used a 302-hp 4.6-liter DOHC V8 (shared with the Mustang Mach 1) and is noted as the last all-new rear-wheel-drive sedan Ford introduced in North America. Despite drawing younger buyers, only about 11,000 sold across two years before it was discontinued after 2004.
