History
Introduced for 2005, the Mariner was Mercury's compact SUV, a more upscale-trimmed sibling of the Ford Escape (and cousin of the Mazda Tribute) on the same platform.
A Mariner Hybrid, sharing the Escape Hybrid's gas-electric system, made it one of the few Mercurys ever offered with a hybrid powertrain. The Mariner was built until the brand's closure, ending in 2010 for the 2011 model year.
