History

Launched in 1993, the Maruti Zen (related to the Suzuki Cultus/Swift of the era) brought a more modern, rounded hatchback body to India with a 993cc engine, positioning itself above the 800 as a slightly premium small car.

The Zen sold well through the 1990s and early 2000s; it was replaced in 2006 by the restyled Zen Estilo (a different, more rounded design based on the Suzuki MR Wagon) and effectively by the new Swift, which had arrived in 2005.
