History
The Maruti Alto was introduced on 27 September 2000 as the Indian-market version of the fifth-generation Suzuki Alto, positioned just above the 800 but with a more modern body. By 2004 it had overtaken the 800 to become India's best-selling car, a position it held for years.
The Alto has evolved through multiple iterations — the Alto K10 (1.0-litre, 2010), the Alto 800 (relaunched 2012 with a revised 800cc engine), and subsequent updates — keeping it at the bottom of Maruti's pricing ladder as India's default entry car.
