History

Introduced in 1994 with a 1,298cc engine, the Maruti Esteem (related to the Suzuki Cultus/Forsa sedan) was Maruti's first proper three-box sedan, giving India an affordable compact with a full boot at a time when the 800 and Zen defined the market.

The Esteem was a popular taxi and family car through the late 1990s and 2000s, eventually being phased out in 2007 as the segment moved toward more modern platforms.
