History

The Maruti Swift was launched in India on 25 May 2005, bringing a contemporary European-style hatchback with a 1.3-litre petrol engine (86 bhp) and, from 2007, a Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre DDiS diesel. The first-generation Swift became a class phenomenon, reaching 5 lakh cumulative sales by January 2010.

A second generation arrived in 2011, a third in 2018, and India received the fourth-generation model on 9 May 2024. Globally more than 6.5 million have been sold; in India alone the Swift has crossed 3 million units, making it one of the most successful cars the country has ever seen.

Sold through Maruti's standard (Arena) channel, the Swift consistently ranks among India's two or three best-selling passenger cars and remains the benchmark compact hatchback in its segment.
