History

Launched on 16 April 2012, the Maruti Ertiga was Maruti Suzuki's first MPV, combining a car-like ride with seven-seat capacity in a footprint small enough for Indian urban use. It filled a gap between the aging Omni van and larger imported MPVs.

The Ertiga has been India's number-one selling MPV for six consecutive fiscal years. By February 2026 cumulative sales had crossed 14 lakh (1.4 million) units, reflecting its enduring appeal as a family carrier. A second generation arrived in 2018 on a new platform with improved refinement and additional equipment.
