History

The Viale (and Gran Viale) line was introduced around 2003–2004 as Marcopolo's purpose-built urban transit body, addressing the growing demand for modern, low-floor-compatible city buses in Brazilian metropolitan areas.

Over subsequent years the lineup expanded to include articulated and bi-articulated formats for bus rapid transit (BRT) corridors, and the Viale DD 'Sunny' double-decker was developed for high-capacity urban routes. BRT-specific Viale variants have been deployed in major Brazilian cities and in export markets.
