Locomobile Junior Eight (8-66) History

Under Durant Motors ownership, Locomobile brought out its first genuinely new model for 1925: the Junior Eight, also known by its 8-66 designation. It used a contemporary straight-eight engine and arrived at a far lower price — around $1,785 — in an effort to widen the brand's appeal beyond the rarefied Model 48 market.

The Junior Eight, a smaller Junior Six that followed for 1926, and the larger Model 90 represented Durant's attempt to modernize and broaden the once-exclusive marque. The strategy lifted volume — Locomobile's best Durant-era years came in 1926–1927 — but never restored the brand's old standing, and the company stopped building cars in 1929.
