Ligier JS50 History

Launched in the early 2010s (sources vary; Wikipedia dates it from 2012, some references cite 2013), the JS50 became Ligier's definitive modern microcar: a sleek two-seat enclosed quadricycle with a contemporary exterior, available in standard and long-wheelbase (JS50L) versions. Diesel and petrol moped-class engines keep it within the no-licence quadricycle regulations across the European Union.

The JS50 sits at the top of a range that also includes the X-Too and Be Up open roadster-style models. In 2023, Ligier launched the Myli — a full-electric derivative of the JS50 — marking the brand's first battery-electric quadricycle and positioning it for the shift away from internal-combustion voiturettes mandated by tightening European emissions rules.

As of 2025 the JS50 and Myli remain in active production at Ligier's Abrest facility, making the JS50 line the longest-running nameplate in the brand's modern history and the clearest expression of what Ligier has become: Europe's pre-eminent license-free personal-mobility manufacturer.
