Ligier Ambra History

The Ambra (also known internally as the Ligier 162 in an earlier form from around 1995) represented the mature evolution of Ligier's enclosed microcar concept. Offered with the small diesel engines that had become standard across the voiture sans permis category, it competed directly with Aixam and Microcar in the French urban-mobility market.

In September 2008, Ligier Automobiles acquired the Microcar division from the Beneteau Group, combining the two largest French microcar brands under a single ownership structure while maintaining separate marque identities. The Ambra continued in production until around 2011, by which point the JS50 line had taken over as the flagship product.
