Lifan 520 (Breez) History

The Lifan 520 was the company's first independently developed passenger car, debuting at the 2006 Beijing Auto Show. Its body was original to Lifan, but the chassis was derived from the 1991 Citroën ZX platform, giving the sedan conventional front-drive architecture at an affordable price point.

Power came from 1.3-litre and 1.6-litre four-cylinder engines, including the Brazilian-built Tritec 1.6 shared with the then-current Mini Cooper. Sales grew from roughly 2,600 units in the launch year to 38,685 in 2007, and a five-door hatchback variant — the 520i — added bodystyle breadth.

The 520 was exported primarily to Russia, where it was marketed as the Lifan Breez and became the brand's first international hit. Production continued through 2012, when the newer 530 (Celliya) took over the compact-sedan slot.
