History

Revealed at the 2008 Beijing Auto Show, the JAC Tongyue (通悦, later re-marketed as the Heyue A13/J3) was a subcompact sedan developed with Italian design house Pininfarina — with styling by Goran Popović — and powered by a Mitsubishi-sourced 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine producing around 98 hp. A sporty Tongyue RS five-door hatchback and a small Tongyue RS Cross crossover variant followed shortly after.

Priced well under CN¥50,000 at launch, the Tongyue was JAC's volume entry-level car. A 2014 facelift renamed the sedan the Heyue A13 with revised front and rear styling. Production of the full family ran from 2008 to 2017. An electric derivative, the iEV4, was also produced based on the Tongyue platform with a 13 kW motor and ~200 km range.
