History

The JAC T9 (marketed as the Hunter in China) was unveiled at the 2020 Beijing Auto Show and launched in the Chinese domestic market in January 2021. It is a conventional body-on-frame mid-size dual-cab pickup powered at launch by a 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel or petrol engine. A 2023 facelift brought an updated 2.0-liter Blue Whale turbocharged petrol engine producing 230 hp and 380 N·m.

The T9 Hunter expanded rapidly into international markets: Australia and Pakistan saw deliveries begin in 2024, where it competes directly with the Toyota HiLux and Ford Ranger at a significantly lower price point. A plug-in hybrid T9 Hunter PHEV was introduced in 2025, and an all-electric T9 EV (88 kWh LFP battery, dual-motor, 220 kW) was announced at the end of 2024, making the Hunter one of the first mid-size pickups offered in petrol, PHEV, and full-electric variants simultaneously.
