JAC Motors iEV Series History

JAC launched its first battery-electric vehicle, the J3 EV (later iEV4), in China around 2010 using the Tongyue platform, making JAC one of the first Chinese automakers to offer a production EV. The formal iEV brand was established from 2014, with models originally launched at the 2014 Beijing Auto Show under the JAC iEV name and later renamed the iEV7 from 2017 onward — a subcompact electric sedan based on the Heyue A20 platform.

The iEV6E, an electric city hatchback based on the S2 Mini platform, debuted at the 2016 Beijing Auto Show with production starting in 2017, giving JAC an affordable urban EV priced within reach of Chinese government purchase subsidies. The iEVA50 (an electric version of the Heyue sedan) followed from 2018 with a larger battery pack and longer range. These models collectively established JAC as one of China's higher-volume affordable EV producers through the late 2010s and early 2020s.
