Hummer H3 History

The H3 was the smallest and least expensive Hummer, aimed at bringing the brand's look to a far broader audience. Launched for the 2006 model year, it was built on GM's GMT355 platform — shared with the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon mid-size pickups — and assembled in Shreveport, Louisiana, alongside those trucks.

It launched with a 3.5L inline-five (220 hp), enlarged to a 3.7L five (242 hp) for 2007. For 2008 the more powerful H3 Alpha added a 5.3L V8 (300 hp). A pickup version, the H3T, was offered for the 2009 and 2010 model years.

The H3 outlived the H1 and H2, but it could not survive GM's 2009 bankruptcy. After a planned sale of the Hummer brand to China's Sichuan Tengzhong fell through, GM shut the marque down; the last vehicle — an H3T — left the Shreveport line on May 24, 2010, ending the original Hummer brand.
