History

Presented as a concept in November 2021 and officially launched at the 2022 Chengdu Motor Show, the HiPhi Z entered customer deliveries in 2023. It occupied the E-segment executive-car space as a design-first shooting brake rather than a conventional sedan or SUV.

The Z's signature feature was its 'Star Ring' intelligent display: 4,000 individually addressable LEDs embedded in each door sill capable of animating patterns, messages, and ambient lighting — a party trick that embodied HiPhi's philosophy of treating the car as a platform for programmable expression. A robotic-arm-mounted interior touchscreen automatically rotated toward the active driver, and the cabin offered optional five-seat or four-seat limousine layouts.

Mechanically, the Z used a 120 kWh battery pack with a dual-motor AWD system producing 672 hp and CLTC range of up to 705 km in the five-seat configuration. Production ran at the Dongfeng Yueda Kia facility in Yancheng from December 2022 until the February 2024 suspension.
