History
The Haval H9 debuted at the 2014 Beijing Auto Show and entered production in November 2014 as GWM's premium, body-on-frame large SUV. Built on a ladder frame with a 2,800 mm wheelbase, it offered seating for five or seven and was powered by a 2.0L turbocharged petrol four-cylinder (214–241 hp) mated to a ZF 8-speed automatic, with an optional 2.0L diesel twin-turbo.
The H9 received a mid-cycle upgrade in late 2017 and continued largely unchanged through its first generation until 2024. A second generation arrived in early 2024 with a 2,850 mm wheelbase, choice of 2.0L turbo petrol or 2.4L turbo diesel, and 8- or 9-speed automatic transmissions. The H9 is assembled in China, Russia, Brazil, and Uzbekistan and has found a particular following in Australia, where it competes with the Toyota Prado and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport.
