History

Unveiled at the 2011 Shanghai Auto Show, the Haval H6 launched at around 100,000 yuan and immediately resonated with China's growing middle-class family market. It combined a spacious interior, above-average build quality, and sharp pricing in a way that rivals — foreign and domestic — struggled to match. By November 2015, the one-millionth H6 had rolled off the Tianjin production line, barely four years after launch.

The H6 led China's SUV sales charts for more than nine consecutive years (103 consecutive months at its peak), setting a December 2016 record of 80,495 units in a single month that stood unbeaten for years. A second generation arrived in 2017 with updated styling, Red Label and Blue Label sub-variants, and turbocharged petrol and diesel options. The third generation, launched in 2020 on GWM's new Lemon platform (B30), added hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains alongside 1.5L and 2.0L turbo engines.

By 2024 GWM had sold more than four million H6 units globally, with production spread across Thailand, Malaysia, Pakistan, Brazil, Iran, and Uzbekistan in addition to the home plant in Tianjin. The model remains the cornerstone of Haval's lineup and one of the most significant Chinese car nameplates of the modern era.
