Hansa Hansa 500 History

The Hansa 500 followed the 400 within its first year of sale, using a 494 cc version of the same rear-mounted ILO two-cylinder two-stroke engine producing 14 PS and a top speed of around 70 km/h. Unlike the 400-only saloon, the 500 was also offered as a two-door convertible.

Both the 400 and 500 reflected Borgward's postwar experience with ultra-small economy vehicles, but neither found lasting market success; they were short-lived stepping stones toward the more serious Hansa 1100 that debuted at the 1934 Berlin Motor Show.
