Hansa Hansa 1700 History

Running alongside the 1100 from 1934, the Hansa 1700 offered a 1,624 cc six-cylinder engine in a larger body, providing a more refined alternative for buyers who wanted a step above the entry-level four-cylinder. A twin-carburettor sports version was also catalogued, giving the model a performance edge unusual for a small independent marque.

Production ran through 1937, after which the engine displacement grew and the branding transitioned: the successor model was sold as the Hansa 2000 from 1938, and then from 1939 increasingly under the Borgward name as Carl Borgward unified his brands.
