Hansa Hansa 2000 History

The Hansa 2000 succeeded the 1700 for 1938 with a 2,075 cc six-cylinder engine and a streamlined body that reflected the aerodynamic styling fashionable in late-1930s European design. It was offered alongside the larger Hansa 3500, together representing the peak of the Borgward group's pre-war Hansa range.

From 1939 the 2000 began carrying Borgward badging instead of Hansa, marking the final retirement of the Hansa passenger-car name. World War II then interrupted production entirely, and when Borgward resumed building cars after the war, the Hansa name reappeared briefly on the postwar Borgward Hansa 1500 (1949) — but that is properly a Borgward product, not the pre-war Hansa marque.
