Ginetta G55 History
History
Announced in November 2010 and launched in February 2011, the G55 was an evolutionary successor to the G50 with improved aerodynamics, a more powerful drivetrain, and GT3 homologation in mind. The standard GT4 and Supercup variant used a Ford-sourced 3.7-litre V6 producing around 355–370 hp mated to a Hewland sequential gearbox; the G55 road car was offered at £75,000.
A full GT3 version followed for 2012 using a Ginetta Racing-built 4.35-litre V8 in place of the V6, allowing the G55 GT3 to contest the British GT Championship's top class. The G55 powered the Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup as the headline car from 2011 through to the series' conclusion in late 2022, giving it one of the longest tenures of any single-make race car in British club racing.
