Ginetta G50 History

The G50 was the first major new car produced after Lawrence Tomlinson acquired Ginetta in late 2005, and was developed in under six months to celebrate the company's 50th anniversary. Powered by a front-mid-mounted 3.5-litre Ford Duratec V6 producing 300 hp, housed in a spaceframe chassis with composite bodywork and weighing around 800 kg, the G50 was built primarily for GT4-class competition but was also offered as a road car.

In competition, the G50 was dominant: it won Autosport's National Car of the Year in its debut season of 2008, took the GT4 European Cup in 2009 (beating Aston Martin, BMW and Porsche), and became a five-time undefeated GT4 class champion in the British GT Championship. The Ginetta G50 Cup — later the GT Supercup — ran as a BTCC support series from 2008 and became one of Britain's most watched single-make championships.
