Ginetta G40 History

Revealed in 2010 as a replacement for the older G20 in the Ginetta Junior Championship — a BTCC support series for 14-to-17-year-old drivers — the G40 was designed from the outset as a dual-purpose race-and-road platform. The race car uses a 1.8-litre Ford Zetec engine in restricted 100 hp form for the Junior series, de-restricted to 140 hp (later 165 hp) for the adult G40 GT4 Challenge.

A road-going G40R variant was developed alongside the racer, using a 2.0-litre Mazda MZR engine producing 175 hp while retaining the full roll-cage structure of the competition car. Production of the road car was targeted at approximately 100 units per year to qualify for small-series exemptions. The G40 remains a central pillar of the Ginetta racing ladder as of the mid-2020s, and the Junior series it anchors has produced numerous professional racing drivers.
