History

Debuting at Auto Guangzhou 2017 under the name GM8, the Trumpchi M8 was GAC's first entry into the full-size MPV segment and, at its launch, the largest passenger vehicle the brand had ever built. The first-generation model entered production in early 2018 with a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine producing 252 hp. An upmarket 'Master Edition' with an extended body arrived in 2020, and a 2021 facelift renamed the range simply 'M8' while adding an eight-speed automatic.

A second generation debuted at the 2022 Chengdu Auto Show with expanded powertrain options — a 248-hp 2.0T petrol, a Toyota THS II mild-hybrid system, and a plug-in hybrid E9 variant producing a combined 367 hp. GAC positioned the M8 as a premium family/business MPV competing with the Buick GL8, and the model has since been exported to Southeast Asia, Australia, South Africa, and Singapore.
