2007Dodge Charger

The nameplate revived as a rear-wheel-drive full-size FOUR-DOOR sedan on the Mercedes-influenced LX platform — controversial with purists who knew the Charger as a coupe. Offered the 5.7 Hemi and the 6.1 Hemi SRT8.

The 2007 model year

Overview

For 2007 Dodge broadened the LX Charger from a rear-drive-only lineup into a three-engine, two-drivetrain range. The factory consumer and fleet matrices document the 190-hp 2.7-liter V6, 250-hp 3.5-liter V6, and 340-hp 5.7-liter HEMI, with newly available rear-biased all-wheel drive on 3.5-liter and 5.7-liter combinations. The 350-hp Road/Track and Daytona packages remained rear-drive performance variants, while SRT added a Detonator Yellow Super Bee edition to the 425-hp SRT8.

Year over year

What changed

  • A 190-hp 2.7-liter V6 and four-speed automatic became the entry SE fleet powertrain; Dodge's 27E SE and SXT combinations used the 250-hp 3.5-liter and five-speed AutoStick.
  • All-wheel drive arrived with a fixed 38/62 front/rear torque split on 3.5-liter and 5.7-liter combinations; factory matrices do not pair AWD with the 2.7-liter V6, Road/Track group, Daytona, or SRT8.
  • The enhanced rear-drive-only Road/Track group moved to 20-inch chrome-clad wheels and 245/45ZR20 all-season performance tires while retaining the 350-hp HEMI calibration.
  • Dodge revived the Super Bee as a Detonator Yellow special-edition package on the 425-hp Charger SRT8.

Worth knowing

Notable

  • The factory buyer's guide lists six consumer columns: SE, SXT, R/T, R/T Road/Track, Daytona R/T, and SRT8; drivetrain and fleet matrices expose the additional engine/AWD combinations represented on this site.
  • The SRT8 Super Bee combined the normal 425-hp SRT powertrain with Detonator Yellow paint, flat-black hood and rear treatment, Super Bee graphics, polished wheels, and color-keyed stitching.
  • The 2007 owner's manual sets a 6,000-mile or six-month maximum normal oil interval and a 3,000-mile or three-month Schedule B interval when any severe-use condition applies.
  • AWD transfer-case fluid is scheduled at 60,000 miles under Schedule A and 102,000 miles under the published Schedule B table; the front differential is inspected for leakage but has no routine fluid-change requirement in the manual.

Living with it

Reliability & ownership notes

  • Confirm both engine and drivetrain before ordering service parts: the 2.7-liter, 3.5-liter, 5.7-liter, and 6.1-liter engines use different ignition, filtration, cooling, and service components.
  • AWD cars add a transfer case, front differential, front halfshafts, AWD-specific wheels and brakes, and severe-duty cooling; rear-drive fitment alone does not establish AWD compatibility.
  • The owner's manual specifies SAE 5W-20 for the 2.7-liter and 5.7-liter engines, but prefers SAE 10W-30 for the 3.5-liter except for permitted cold-weather use of 5W-30.
  • The rendered maintenance schedule distinguishes the 30,000-mile 5.7-liter spark-plug interval from the 102,000-mile 2.7/3.5-liter interval and identifies the 3.5-liter timing-belt service at 102,000 miles.
