Bajaj Qute History

Unveiled on 3 January 2012 as the Bajaj RE60, the Qute is a rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive quadricycle seating four passengers and powered by a 216cc single-cylinder petrol engine. Classified as a quadricycle rather than a car under Indian law, it faced years of regulatory disputes before receiving approval for domestic sale.

Bajaj launched the Qute in international export markets in 2015, initially to Turkey and subsequently across 15 additional countries including Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Kenya, and Peru. Domestic Indian launch followed on 18 April 2019 in Maharashtra, making the Qute the first and only four-wheeled vehicle Bajaj has produced.

The Qute targets last-mile urban mobility and positions as a more enclosed and safer alternative to the traditional auto-rickshaw for short city trips. Its sub-₹3 lakh price point (at launch) made it the most affordable four-wheeler available in India.
