Bajaj Avenger History

Launched in 2005, the Bajaj Avenger was the first cruiser motorcycle designed and manufactured by an Indian company, drawing its long, low stance and relaxed riding position from the Kawasaki Eliminator while using Bajaj's own DTS-i engine derived from the Pulsar sportbike.

The Avenger 220 DTS-i arrived in 2010 as the family's largest-displacement model, with revised instrument cluster and headlight styling. In 2015 Bajaj launched a refreshed two-model lineup — the highway-oriented Avenger Cruise 220 and the urban Avenger Street 220 (and Street 150) — giving the nameplate a clearer positioning for both long-distance touring and city riding.

Unlike Bajaj's commuter range the Avenger has been kept focused on a single, simple proposition: affordable cruiser character in a country where full-size Harley-Davidsons were beyond most budgets. It remains in production as the Avenger Cruise 220.
