Adler Diplomat History

Introduced in 1934 to carry Adler's six-cylinder luxury torch after the Standard 8 was discontinued, the Diplomat used a 2,916 cc six-cylinder engine producing 60–65 PS at 3,800 rpm. It was available with coachwork by Ambi-Budd and Karmann, giving buyers a degree of body customization unusual in a production car.

The Diplomat was a rear-wheel-drive car aimed at professional and well-heeled buyers at a time when Adler was simultaneously pursuing the mass-market with front-drive compacts — an illustration of the brand's broad ambitions in the 1930s. Production ended in 1938 as Adler streamlined ahead of the war years.
