TVR M-Series History

The M-series defined TVR through the 1970s under owner Martin Lilley. The line shared a common tubular chassis and fibreglass body but offered a spread of bought-in engines: the 1600M used Ford's Kent four, the 2500M a Triumph 2.5-litre straight-six (key for US emissions compliance), and the 3000M Ford's 3.0-litre Essex V6. About 2,465 cars were built over the series.

The body range grew with the Taimar hatchback (from 1976) and the open 3000S roadster (1978). For real pace, TVR worked with Broadspeed on turbocharged versions — the 3000M Turbo, Taimar Turbo and 3000S Turbo — making around 230 bhp and built in tiny numbers, among the fastest British cars of their day.
