TVR Grantura History

Introduced in 1958, the Grantura was the first production model in TVR's history and set the marque's lasting template: a glass-fibre body bolted to a tubular steel backbone chassis, hand-built in small numbers in Blackpool. Roughly 796 were made across its run.

Customers could specify a range of proprietary engines — Ford and Coventry Climax units, the MGA engine, and ultimately the 1798cc BMC B-series — making the Grantura as much a kit of choices as a single car. It progressed through Mark I to Mark IV (and the later 1800S with its 'Manx tail'), gaining disc brakes and a properly engineered suspension along the way before the Vixen superseded it in 1967.
