TVR Cerbera History

The Cerbera, on sale from 1996, was a landmark for TVR under Peter Wheeler: its first fixed-head coupe (the Griffith and Chimaera were both convertibles), its first 2+2, and crucially the first TVR powered by engines designed and built in-house rather than bought from Rover or Ford.

It could be had with the in-house AJP8 'Speed Eight' V8 in 4.2, 4.5 and 'Red Rose' 4.5 forms (up to around 440 bhp), or the new Speed Six 4.0-litre straight-six. From the Cerbera grew the wild Speed 12 (Project 7/12), a near-1,000 bhp twelve-cylinder hypercar that was ultimately judged too extreme for the road and abandoned. About 1,490 Cerberas were built.
