History
The Griffith arrived in 1991 (full production from 1992) and instantly redefined the modern TVR: a smooth, bumper-free fibreglass roadster of just over 1,000 kg wrapped around a Rover V8. It reused the Griffith name from TVR's 1960s Ford-V8 cars but was an all-new car, and demand was so strong at its launch that TVR took a reported flood of deposits.
Power came from various Rover V8s — 4.0 and 4.3 litres, then the 5.0-litre Griffith 500 from 1993 with around 340 bhp. With no driver aids and prodigious performance, it built TVR's reputation as a maker of raw, fast, slightly dangerous sports cars. Around 2,351 were built before a run-out Special Edition closed production in 2002.
