History

Launched in 1992, the Chimaera was conceived as the long-distance grand tourer of the range: longer, more spacious and a touch softer than its Griffith sibling, with more practical luggage room. Rather than replacing the Griffith, it sold alongside it, and demand for both kept the two in production together.

Power again came from the Rover V8 in 4.0, 4.3, 4.5 and 5.0-litre forms (up to around 340 bhp). With its broad appeal and accessible character, the Chimaera became TVR's biggest seller of the era — roughly 5,256 cars built — and remains many enthusiasts' entry point into TVR ownership.
