Trojan RE History

Announced in 1931, the Trojan RE (Rear Engine) moved the two-stroke powerplant to the back of the car in an attempt to modernise the layout. It was capable of roughly 45 mph, but the design still lacked an electric starter and offered only rear-wheel braking, putting it behind contemporary rivals in convenience.

The RE was a commercial disappointment: approximately 250 were sold before it was discontinued. A further derivative, the Wayfarer (1934), repositioned the engine mid-frame and added a three-speed gearbox and shaft drive, but only three were ever sold, marking the end of Trojan's attempts to update the original formula.
