Triumph Mayflower History

The Mayflower (1949–1953) was Triumph's attempt to bring upmarket 'razor-edge' styling — the sharp-creased, formal look of the larger Renown — to an economy car. Designed and named with North American export hopes in mind (after the Pilgrim ship), its incongruous mix of stately lines and a small 1,247 cc side-valve four made it a distinctive period oddity.

Sales never matched ambitions and the export push faltered, but the Mayflower is remembered as the car that miniaturised Bentley-style razor-edge styling for the budget class.
