Triumph GT6 History

The GT6 (1966) grew out of a Michelotti GT proposal for the Spitfire: a sleek fastback coupe with an opening rear hatch. To match the heavier body, Triumph dropped in the 2.0-litre straight-six from the Vitesse, and the swooping shape earned it the nickname 'poor man's E-Type'.

Three versions followed in step with the Spitfire — the Mk 2 (1968) improved the criticised swing-axle handling with revised rear suspension, and the Mk 3 (1970) adopted the cut-off Kamm tail of the Spitfire Mk IV. Production ended in 1973.
