History
The Dolomite (1972) was a rear-drive sporting saloon that capped Triumph's small-car range, sharing its shell with the front-wheel-drive 1300/1500 but reverting to a more powerful rear-drive layout. It was offered across a spread of engines from a 1296 cc four up to the 1850.
Its landmark was the Dolomite Sprint (1973): a 1998 cc slant-four with an ingenious single-overhead-cam 16-valve head producing 127 bhp — widely described as the world's first mass-produced multi-valve car, a configuration whose head design won a Design Council award. The Dolomite ran until 1980, near the end of Triumph car production.
