Trabant Trabant 600 History

From October 1962, VEB Sachsenring produced the Trabant 600 — an intermediate model that combined the exterior body of the P50 with the new 594 cc, 23 PS two-stroke engine and the underpinnings being developed for the next-generation 601. It served as a bridge during the tooling changeover.

Production overlapped with the early 601 and ran from October 1962 until July 1965, with the saloon ending in 1964 and the Universal estate carrying on into mid-1965. A total of 106,117 Trabant 600s were built across both body styles.
